What
is Integrated circuit?
An integrated circuit or monolithic
integrated circuit (also referred to as IC, chip, or microchip) is
an electronic circuit manufactured by the patterned diffusion of
trace elements into the surface of a thin substrate of
semiconductor material. Additional materials are deposited and
patterned to form interconnections between semiconductor devices.
Integrated circuits are used in
virtually all electronic equipment today and have revolutionized
the world of electronics. Computers, cell phones, and other
digital appliances are now inextricable parts of the structure of
modern societies, made possible by the low cost of production of
integrated circuits.
General
information:
An application for the deposit of any
layout-design of integrated circuits shall include:
(1) a declaration of deposit, in two copies, drafted using
the form produced by the Institut National de
la Normalisation
et de
la Propriete Industrielle
(INNORPI)..
This
declaration shall specify inter alia:
— the identity of the depositor and his address,
— a short and accurate description of the layout-design of
integrated circuits to be deposited,
— the date and place of the first commercial use of the
layout-design of integrated circuits or an indication that such
use has not yet begun.
(2) two copies of the layout design.
(3) a document containing the information for defining the
electronic function which the integrated circuits are intended to
perform.
The protection granted to a layout-design of integrated
circuits is ten (10) years.
